Why Does God Allow Suffering?

Have you ever wondered, “Why does a loving and powerful God allow suffering?” This profound question has caused many to question their faith or hesitate before exploring a relationship with God. At our church, we deeply understand these doubts, and we believe it’s essential to address them openly and compassionately.

The Root Cause of Suffering: Sin

The reality of suffering, as hard as it is to accept, originates from sin—humanity’s choice to disobey God. As our pastor shared, “Our world is not operating the way God created it to operate.” The Bible clearly reveals the impact of sin:

• “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23

Yet, despite humanity’s rebellion, God has not abandoned us.

God’s Response to Human Suffering

Remarkably, God responds to suffering by stepping directly into it. Dr. John Lennox, a renowned mathematician from Oxford University, eloquently explained:

• “If it is actually true that Jesus is the Son of God, then we must ask the question: ‘What is God doing on a cross?’ God has not remained distant from our human suffering but has become part of it.”

Indeed, the central message of Christianity is hope amidst suffering:

• “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16

Jesus Christ bore our pain and our sins on the cross, providing us the ultimate rescue from suffering’s eternal consequences.

The Healing Offered Through Christ

The Bible emphasizes the healing and hope found in Jesus:

• “He Himself bore our sins in His own body on the cross, so we might die to sin and live for righteousness. By His wounds, we are healed.” – 1 Peter 2:24

In Christ, suffering is not meaningless—it points us toward the love, sacrifice, and redemption offered by God Himself.

Finding Hope and Meaning

Rather than getting lost in questions like “Why does suffering exist?”, we are invited to discover the One who willingly suffered for us—Jesus Christ. He offers salvation, eternal hope, and peace that transcends the struggles of this life.
