Knowing God's will

Have you ever asked yourself, “How can I know God’s will for my life? What does He want for me?”

I remember asking God this very question right after college when I met a girl I really liked. I wasn’t sure if I should ask her to marry me, so I began praying and seeking His guidance. God answered my prayer, gave me clarity, and I proposed. She said “yes,” and the rest is history—we’ve been married for many years, and I’m grateful He helped me choose the right partner.

Maybe you’re facing a big decision—about your relationships, career, ministry, or future—and you’re wondering if God is involved, if He’s interested, and how to know what He thinks. The Bible gives us clear principles for finding His will.

God’s Will Aligns with God’s Word

Everything God wants for your life will always be consistent with the instructions and truth in Scripture. If something contradicts the Bible, it’s not from Him.

God Wants You to Ask for His Guidance

Psalm 32:8 says:

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.”

God invites you to seek His counsel—but here’s the key: you must be willing in advance to do what He says. Why would God reveal His direction if you’ve already decided to ignore it?

Settle Your Obedience Before You Ask

When you pray, say in your heart: “Lord, whatever You say, I will do. I want to honor You in my life and follow Your best for me.”

Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.”

When you trust God fully, align your life with His Word, and remain open to His leading, He will guide you into the best path for your life.
