Why Is The Church Important?
Putting God First in Our Worship and Our Schedule
Have you ever wondered why the church is important? Why it matters to attend regularly? There are so many good reasons—but the number one reason isn’t for ourselves. It’s for God.
We go to church to obey the Lord, because He calls us to be part of His body—the Church. That means even if you’ve been hurt, even if you’ve been offended, even if it’s a struggle to get there on Sunday, you still go because you love the Lord.
One of the ways we show that God is first in our lives is by putting Him first in our schedule and our plans—especially on Sunday morning.
The Bible’s Call to Gather
Hebrews 10:23–25 gives us a clear picture of why gathering matters:
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
From these verses, we see three big reasons church matters:
To Worship and Love God
Our attendance shows our allegiance and love for Him. We come to worship, pray, and learn from His Word.To Strengthen Our Faith
When we gather, God uses worship, teaching, and fellowship to help us “hold fast” to our hope in Him.To Encourage and Inspire Others
Church isn’t just about receiving—it’s about giving encouragement and helping others grow in their walk with Jesus.
Don’t Just “Slip In and Out”
Church is more than attending a service. It’s about connecting with other believers, building relationships, and actively encouraging one another in faith.
And remember—Jesus is coming again. The writer of Hebrews says we should be even more committed to gathering “as you see the Day drawing near.” Who knows? Maybe He’ll return on a Sunday morning. Wouldn’t it be amazing if He found us worshiping together when He comes?
