Many Christians wonder if the Old Testament still matters now that we have the New Testament and salvation through Jesus. The answer is yes—both Testaments are part of God’s inspired Word and are meant for our instruction and growth.
The Bible is made up of 66 books, written by over 40 authors, yet inspired by one Author—God Himself.
2 Timothy 3:16 – “All Scripture is inspired by God and useful…” This includes the Old Testament.
God’s plan for each of us is revealed throughout the entire Bible, not just part of it.
In Acts 20:27, Paul said, “I did not shrink back from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.”
When Paul and the early church preached, the Old Testament was the Scripture they used—it pointed forward to Jesus.
It contains the stories of people God used—sometimes as examples to follow, other times as warnings.
It gives us historical context, prophetic promises, and deep insights into God’s character.
Every story, law, prophecy, and psalm helps us understand the New Testament more fully.
Bottom line:
Don’t skip the Old Testament. Read it alongside the New Testament to see the fullness of God’s plan for salvation, His promises, and His purposes for your life.
