Suicide is a deeply painful subject, especially if you have lost someone you love in this way. The Bible teaches in Exodus 20:13, “You shall not murder,” and that includes taking one’s own life. Suicide is literally self-murder. Sadly, it often happens when someone feels emotionally distraught, hopeless, or trapped in unbearable guilt or despair.
Even though suicide is a sin, it is not unforgivable. God forgives all sins for those who turn to Him. If God wouldn’t forgive breaking this commandment, He couldn’t forgive breaking the others either. The Bible calls us to choose life because God can change circumstances—even when we feel like there’s no way forward. Psalm 42:5 says, “Why so downcast, O my soul? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.”
In John 10:10, Jesus said, “I came that you might have life and have it to the fullest.” His death and resurrection offer us hope, joy, and purpose—not despair. The devil wants people to give up, but God calls us to hold on and trust Him.
If you are having suicidal thoughts, please talk to someone right now—a pastor, a Christian friend, or a counselor. If you know someone in this situation, reach out in love, offer hope, and remind them that God cares and has a plan for their life.
