What is the Toughest Thing to Do in the Bible?

Learning to Love Like Jesus

If you believe in God and His Son, Jesus, that means you also believe in the Bible—and that you’re called to apply its teachings to your life. But out of everything the Bible says, what’s the hardest thing to actually do?

According to 1 Corinthians 16:14, it’s this:
“Let all that you do be done in love.”

Why Love Is So Challenging

You might think the toughest challenge is staying morally pure, being honest, or handling money with integrity. While those are important, the deepest challenge for many of us is to truly love:

  • Loving God as He deserves.

  • Loving others without conditions.

  • Loving even those we don’t like.

  • Loving ourselves in a healthy, God-honoring way.

The Bible doesn’t say, “Love the people who are easy to love.” It simply says, “Love.” That means loving people who may frustrate, offend, or disagree with us.

We Can’t Do It Alone

The truth is, we can’t love this way in our own strength. It requires daily time with God, asking His Holy Spirit to control our hearts, minds, and will. Without Him:

  • I can’t love my spouse the way I should.

  • I can’t love my kids the way I should.

  • I can’t love my neighbors, co-workers, or strangers the way I should.

  • I can’t even love the person driving next to me on the freeway the way I should!

Only when God’s love fills us can we extend that same love to others.

A Prayer for God’s Love in Us

Lord, help me to love the way You love. Help me to forgive quickly, live graciously, and be an ambassador of Your love in a world that desperately needs You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
